5A Baseball Fort Collins at GHS

5A Baseball: Grandview and Cherokee Trail lead the way

The 2025 baseball season is well underway. Some district teams spent their spring break on the road to warmer climes, while others had a skeleton schedule during the break.

Grandview is 7-1 overall after going 4-0 last week. After an opening-season loss to Arvada West, the Wolves have reeled off seven straight wins outscoring the opposition 73-13 including two shutouts. Next, GHS hosts Vista Peak Prep on April 1.

Cherokee Trail is 7-3 on the season after going 2-1 last week. The Cougars spent part of spring break in Arizona as part of the Best of the West Tourney. CT had a successful trip going 3-1. Cherokee Trail has already played a conference game, a 1-0 shutout of Eaglecrest at Coors Field on March 14. The Cougars next are at Arvada West on Tuesday.

Smoky Hill has a 4-2 record after last week’s play. The Buffs went 1-0 during the week. Smoky also travelled out of state during the break, going 1-2 in the Scorpion Invitational held in New Mexico. Up next, the Buffs head to the Western Slope to play Glenwood Springs in a tournament starting April 3.

Cherry Creek is 3-4-1 in the first two weeks of the season. The Bruins went out of town to participate in the Boras Classic in Arizona where they went 0-3. First-year Head Coach Joe Smith’s charges went 2-0 last week, with a big wins over Lakewood and Regis Jesuit. The Bruins will resume play on March 31 at Rock Canyon.

Eaglecrest is 3-5 after going 1-2 last week. The Raptors also are 0-1 in Centennial League play, falling to CT at Coors on March 14. Next, EHS hosts Northfield on April 3.

Overland is 3-5 after going 1-0 last week with a big win over Hinkley. Next the Blazers host Skyview at Utah Park Field on Thursday.

6A Girls and Boys Basketball: All-state teams announced

The honors continue for the State Champion Grandview girls and Eaglecrest boys basketball teams. EHS boys Head Coach Jarris Krapcha was named boys Coach of the Year and GHS girls Head Coach Josh Ulitzky was named girls Coach of the Year when the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) announced All-State honors for the 2024-25 season. In addition, GHS senior and UCLA commit Sienna Betts was named Player of the Year.
